Police man, Pregnant woman killed in Bayelsa robbery attack

A policeman and a pregnant woman were killed Wednesday, during an exchange of gunfire between policemen and some armed robbers in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital.

The policeman, who is attached to the new security outfit in the state, Operation Doo Akpo, was said to have fallen from the tail-board of the police pick-up van that was in hot pursuit of the vehicle that was used by the robbers. He died instantly as he was said to have hit his head on the ground after falling.
The pregnant woman, on her part, was said to be a passenger in the car, when she was allegedly felled by police bullets, which the police confirmed.
it was also gathered that the woman, her husband, her sister and a driver had gone to collect some undisclosed sums of money from a bank when some men in a bus started trailing them.
Sensing that they may indeed be armed robbers, the occupants of the car started shouting “armed robbers, armed robbers” to alert the public even as they were racing away from the pursuing bus which was unrelenting.
