Teenagers kill business mogul, three security officials, seven others in Maiduguri



Some group of armed Teenagers shot dead a Maiduguri based merchant, Abubakar Girigiri, at his warehouse in the Bolori area of Maiduguri, Borno State on Thursday.


He allegedly died on the spot as he failed to make it to the hospital.

A witness, Modu Lawal told Journalists in Maiduguri that the gunmen arrived at the warehouse on foot, pretending to be customers before gunning him down.

JTF kills 5 suspected terrorists, destroys bomb factory in Kaduna



The Nigerian army said soldiers killed five “suspected terrorists” and destroyed a bomb making factory on Thursday in the northern city of Kaduna where the Islamist sect Boko Haram is active.


Kaduna, in the mainly Muslim north, has been the target of several attacks by Boko Haram since the group’s low-level insurgency intensified over two years ago.

“On the approach to the factory, some suspected terrorists opened fire and also threw already primed Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) at the troops,” Kaduna Army spokesman Sani Kukasheka Usman said in a statement.

“The exchange of fire that ensued resulted in the death of five terrorists, while two that sustained various degrees of injuries are being treated.”

Insecurity is the reason for slow development in the North – Governor Aliyu



Niger State Governor, Mr. Babangida Aliyu has attributed the slow pace of development in the Northern part of the country to the Boko Haram activities.


The Governor made this observation at his residence in Minna, Niger State capital during an interactive session with some selected journalists.

According to Aliyu who doubles as Chairman of the Northern Governors’ Forum (NGF), the Boko Haram activities in the region had discouraged investors from investing in the region for fear of losing their investments to continuous crisis.

Aliyu said: “I am not satisfied with the slow pace of development in the Northern region, but under my leadership as chairman of Northern Governors’ Forum, we have given the region good leadership.

Nigerian Army announces disengagement of 51 senior officers

The Nigerian Army on Thursday announced the retirement of 51 top officers.

The senior officers were officially disengage from service on Tuesday.

One of those affected, Major Gen. M.D. Isah, was the former commander of the Army Infantry School, Jaji. He was redeployed after the twin bomb explosion at the protestant church which killed dozens of people.

The Army had after that incident set up a Board of Inquiry to investigate the attack. The report however is yet to be released.

Briefing newsmen in Abuja yesterday, Brig.-Gen. Bola Koleoso, Director of Army Public Relations, said the retirement of the senior officers was in line with the harmonised “Terms and Condition of Services for Officers, revised in 2012’’

Boko Haram: FG tightens up security in Airports

The Federal Government has beefed up security in and around all Airports in the country for fear of possible attack by the dreaded Islamic sect, Boko Haram.

However, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, (FAAN) has confirmed that there was no security threats at Nnamdi Azikiwe International airport during this Yuletide.

Army spokesman, Brigadier General Mobolaji Koleoso noted that all security agencies have been put on 24-hour surveillance across all functional airports in the country.

US, Taiwan & Canada Warn Citizens Against Non-Essential Travel to Nigeria



Following increased terrorist attacks in the North-Eastern part of Nigeria, the United States, Canadian and Taiwanese governments have warned their nationals against non-essential travel to Nigeria.


A few days ago, the United States and Canadian Embassies, in their travel advisories updates, urged their citizens to avoid all but essential visits to certain parts of Nigeria. The Taiwanese government cited fear of another terror attack on Abuja, Nigeria’s capital for its security alert and urged its nationals to avoid non-essential travel to Nigeria, especially during the coming week.

Two-Month Old Baby Stolen at a Market in Kano on Christmas Eve



Christmas in most societies around the world is a time spent with family, a time of joy, a time of laughter. Sadly, it turned sour for a couple in Kano State when their two month old baby was stolen on Christmas eve.



Sun News reported yesterday that the baby boy was stolen from his mother by a strange woman at the Mohammadu Abubakar Rimi Market in the state capital.

Police arrest 3 armed robbery, murder suspects in Owerri


Men of the Imo state Police command arrested three men suspected to be part of the robbery gang responsible for killing of two policemen and one soldier in the state in 2010.

In a statement signed by the Imo state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr
Vitalis Onugu, in Owerri on Saturday, his men were able to arrest the robbery gangs following a tip off from an anonymous source who named the gang’s informant.

3 Police officers dismissed over kidnap of Delta State Chief Judge

Consequent to their involvement in the kidnap and alleged attempted poisoning of Delta State High Court judge, Justice Flora Azinge, five persons, including the Judge’s personal driver and 3 police officers were arraigned before a magistrate court in Warri.

They were earlier arrested for allegedly been involved in the kidnap and the demand of N20 million ransom from the judge’s family.

Security watch learnt that while the suspects were in police custody, one of the police officers called the mobile number of the driver of the judge who was earlier arrested and released by Directorate of State Service, DSS, and ordered him to poison the judge but their evil plans were discovered from the call logs of the suspects.

FG uncovers plot by Boko Haram to attack 9 states, Abuja


The Federal Government has uncovered plans by the dreaded Islamic group Boko Haram, to attack some parts of the country including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

Security watch  gathered on Sunday that the sect had planned to wreak wanton havoc in states to include Borno, Plateau, Kano, Kaduna, Kogi, Bauchi, Yobe, Gombe, Adamawa, Niger and Abuja, during the the Christmas and New Year celebrations.

It was revealed that the multiple attacks which may be in coordinated form may begin on December 24 (today). The spots being aimed are worship centres, recreational centres, hotels, military and
paramilitary facilities, police stations, telecommunications installations, among others.

“We kidnapped Frenchman in Katsina” – New Islamic sect, Ansaru


A new radical Islamist sect, Ansaru, on Sunday claimed responsibility for the recent kidnapping of a French national in Katsina.

The group cited France’s push for military intervention in Mali as a justification, accordint to AFP.
A statement by the group said, “Ansaru announces to the world, especially the French government, that it was responsible for the abduction of engineer Francis Colump, 63, working for the French company Vergnet.”

SSS arrest two Kaduna-based journalists in early morning raid



The State Security Service (SSS), early Monday arrested two journalists working for Al-Mizan, a Hausa language newspaper.

Sources say the security operatives around 4am, stormed the house of Saleh, the paper’s reporter, in at least eight cars. Saleh resides in Rigasa, Kaduna.
He was reportedly manhandled alongside his wife. They were both arrested and subsequently moved to the next destination.

The editor, Musa Awwal and his wife, who also received the unexpected guests were also arrested after being maltreated.

Pirates attack ship off the coast of Nigeria, four crew members kidnapped



Armed pirates have attacked a ship off the coast of Nigeria, kidnapping four crew members before releasing the vessel, the International Maritime Bureau said on Monday.

It said on its website the attack took place on Sunday about 40 miles off the coast of Nigeria’s oil-producing Bayelsa state. It said there were no injuries to other crew members and the ship continued to “a safe port”.
The Nigerian Navy did not respond to request for comment.

Christmas Eve Tragedy: Gunman opens fire inside bar, injures several people in Bauchi


At least five people sustained injuries at a drinking joint when an unknown gunman Monday opened fire in Bigi village a suburb of Bauchi metropolis in Bauchi local Government area.

Vanguard gathered from a reliable security source that the gunman entered the joint where people were eating and drinking and joined them.

He said,“ After he finished eating, he used his gun and shot three people. Some good Samaritans at the joint attempted to overpower him and arrest him, but he used his gun and hit two people who also sustained injuries before he fled”.

Kaduna-based newspaper demands release of detained editor, reporter


In less than 12 hours that the State Security Service agents, soldiers and policemen arrested a Kaduna-based newspaper, Al-Mizan’s Editor, Mallam Musa Muhammad Awwal, and a reporter, Mallam Aliyu Saleh, the management of the newspaper have asked the security agents to released its staff with an immediate effect.

In a statement issued by the newspaper’s Editor-in-Chief, Ibrahim Musa, he disclosed that over 40 security agents in 10 cars and an Armoured Personnel Carrier swooped on Aliyu’s home in Rigasa, Kaduna and manhandled him with other occupants in his house before he was arrested alongside his wife.

EFCC finally arrests Wale Babalaki



Reports say that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), today arrested Bi-Courtney Chairman, Wale Babalakin, shortly after he left the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH).
