Lagos police engage robbers in a shoot-out

Four suspected armed robbers on Tuesday, stormed the Abule Onigbagbo Estate along the busy Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way, Ikeja.
The armed robbers reportedly forced their way into one of the houses on Shogunle Street, stealing jewellery, including other household goods.

A resident who identified himself as Mr Omololu, said the armed robbers came prepared with equipment to break into the house.
“At about 7.30am some men came to the front gate and asked to see my wife but the gate man asked them to tell him the name of my wife, but the robbers did not know, so they mentioned the name of my house help. My gate man went to call her and as soon as she opened the gate, the robbers pounced on her and the gate man and tied them up,” he said.
Omololu added that the robbers operated unhindered for close to an hour before they escaped.
“They came straight into the house and were asking for specific things like my wife’s jewellery, money, phones, laptops, wrist watches and other valuables worth millions of naira. The robbers had a filled day as they looted and even had time to drink wine,” he said.
It was gathered that as the robbers attempted to escape with their loot, they shot into the air and their bullet hit a Man ‘O’ War official, identified as Michael Ekwueme.
He was reportedly taken to a near by hospital following the incident.
Police officers reportedly engaged the robbers in a gun battle following a distress call put through by the
residents.
One of the robbers was reportedly killed in the shootout, while the others escaped.
The gun battle between the police and the armed robbers however, caused some panic in the area, as passers-by and motorists plying the Mobolaji Bank Anthony Road scampered for safety.
