10 dead, eight injured in Bauchi-Gombe road accident

At least 10 persons have been confirmed dead and eight others seriously injured in a fatal auto accident that occurred along Bauchi–Gombe federal highway on Friday.

Confirming the incident in Bauchi, the Acting Sector Commandant of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Mahmud Kachalla disclosed that the unfortunate accident occurred when a Volkswagon Golf car, a Honda and a motorcycle had a head-on collision in Alkaleri town, some kilometers away from Tsohuwar Gwaram village in Bauchi state.

Armed robbers kill car dealer in Onitsha

Four armed men on Monday robbed and killed a middle-aged car dealer, Chief Emeka Ekwerendu, at Modebe Avenue Junction in the commercial city of Onitsha, Anambra.

The Divisional Police Officer at the Central Police Station, Onitsha, Mr. Temitope Fahugbe, confirmed the incident to newsmen, adding that he had not yet received details of the incidence.

An eyewitness said the late Ekwerendu was shot by a four-man armed robbery gang at about 8:30 a.m. a few metres away from the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Odoakpu, Onitsha.


“The gang operating in a light green Toyota Siena without a vehicle number plate trailed their victim from a primary school close to the church, after he had dropped his children at school.

“As he was driving out in his black Land Cruiser SUV, he was shot dead and an undisclosed amount of money taken from the boot of his vehicle.

“The gang armed with four Ak-47 rifle shot sporadically into the air to scare the people away as they escape he said.

Zaria becomes a haven for terrorists

Militants from Boko Haram are under suspicion for the killing of a motorcycle police officer in Zaria, Kaduna State, yesterday.

 A source told Sahara Reporters that the incident happened around the Kwangila area, a congested area outside Zaria city.

 He said there have been constant killings in Zaria believed to be carried out by members of Boko Haram, and as well intimidation of community leaders.

 A man buying and selling foreign currency was also shot to death on Wednesday night, the source said.

Gunmen Kill Two Police Guards At Home Of Former Secretary To The Nigerian Government In Bauchi

Unidentified gunmen invaded the home of Aminu Saleh, former secretary to the Nigerian government, killing two police guards at the Azare, Bauchi state home used by the ex-official to receive visitors.

Sources said the attack might be linked to efforts by Mr. Saleh to bring together Muslim clerics and elders led by Dahiru Bauchi who have stated they are involved in a dialogue with Boko Haram.

The Boko Haram sect reportedly opposes dialogue with the Nigerian government on its behalf.

Mr. Saleh was at home at the time of the attack but was unharmed.

Last week, still unidentified gunmen shot and killed the former comptroller of prisons in the same city. Mr. Ibrahim Katagum died in hospital 24 hours after he was shot in the leg and stomach.

Man Nabbed For Allegedly Stealing N1.1m Vehicle Parts

A 38-year-old man, Isaac Ineh, on Monday appeared before a Somolu Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, on alleged theft of vehicle parts valued at N1,149,779.

Ineh, who is of no fixed address, is facing a count charge of stealing. The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The prosecutor, ASP Akinlebi Adegoke, told the court that Ineh had on Sept. 17 at 10.00 p.m. broke into the premises of Consolidated Hallmark Insurance Company and stole the vehicle parts.

According to him, the accused allegedly climbed into the premises of the company, located at No. 266 Obanikoro St., Somolu, and vandalised the vehicles.

``Ineh climbed over the fence into the premises and vandalised several vehicles in the premises and collected 24 side mirrors, 14 brain boxes and 12 control switches.

``He collected the vehicle parts all valued at N1, 149, 779.

``The security men on duty raised an alarm when the security alarm of one of the vehicles went off and the accused attempted to flee but was apprehended," Adegoke said.

 He said the offences contravened Section 278 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State 2011.

The Magistrate, Mrs Bola Osunsanmi, granted the accused bail in the sum of N300, 000 with two sureties in like sum, and adjourned the case to Oct. 19 for trial. (NAN)
